Matthew Thompson
Therapist, MA, LIMHP, LPC
Matthew (or Matt, if you'd rather save a syllable) is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in Lincoln, Nebraska and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Minnesota. He earned his Master of Arts in Counseling & Psychological Services at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
He believes that counseling is a journey of exploration, sometimes asking ourselves big questions about meaning, purpose, and fulfillment and sometimes figuring out how to take the next single step forward when life or misfortune leaves us feeling powerless and stuck.
Matt approaches counseling with curiosity, candor, and transparency. His person-centered style emphasizes the client's authorship of their own story, offering feedback, interpretation, and a safe environment to explore who they are and want to become. With humor, empathy, and a fair dash of pragmatism, he helps people give voice to their unspoken wants, needs, and beliefs and take ownership of their power to make change.
Matthew works with adults (18+) and considers every person equally worthy of help as they labor to build a more rewarding life. He particularly enjoys working with men exploring how their roles and relationships are informed by cultural norms and beliefs surrounding masculinity.
